expensive, flavor not well pronounced

I was a bit disappointed at first not finding the aroma I was looking for. Perhaps because they're frozen. Used 5lb for a tincture (creme de cassis but stronger). Another 5lb for preserve. Preserve has the aroma and taste I remember
growing up in Poland. I would be happy if they were cheaper. Polish stores in Northern New Jersey offer small bag of frozen ones for $1.89/400g.
Frozen black currants for Creme de Cassis
Posted by Unknown on 31st Jul 2017
I live in Maine where black currants are still banned as live plants. Thus black currants are no where to be found. I'd read about this company and its efforts to restore black currants to the market as a viable crop and value-added product. I bought two 5 lb packs of the frozen black currants. One to use in a recipe for homemade Creme de Cassis for holiday gifts to family and friends. The second for jam. The berries arrived in beautiful shape. The Creme de Cassis is made and aging, and the jam is next on the table. I've recommended the company to a friend who also loves black currants and knows how hard it can be to find them.
Didn't survive the trip to Colorado

The berries arrived totally unfrozen, just a gooey mess. This was with 3 day delivery, so not a good choice to Colorado. I put 3 stars because actually I have no idea how good or bad they are when properly frozen.

I recently purchased frozen black currants. It came frozen and in very good shape. It is soooo good, big flavorful berries.I use it with my morning oatmeal and add in my spinach smoothies. I was born and raised in Russia and my dad had black and red currants garden. I missed taste of this berry so much, but now i am satisfied. I was pleasantly surprised when I found black currants here. Thank you very much for these delicious organic berries. Will come back and buy more, when I will be done.

Currants are as fresh as they can come. Of course fresh frozen isn't exactly fresh. The currants do have a freezer taste to them if eaten right from the bag as frozen, (not recommended, need to wash) but after washing and using for purpose these are far the best ripe berries you can get. I got the 5 pound bag and boy that's a lot of berries to be had...how do you like them berries.

Born in the U.K. But living in the USA for 34 years I miss a lot of English food and the English culture.
I came across this supplier of Blackcurrents and black current products about seven or eight years ago. I have tried the juice and the dried currents both are excellentt but my favorite is the frozen blackcurrents. We are able to make blackcurrent pies and eat them hot with traditional English custard. We also like the currents hot and pored over vanilla ice cream (sound strange but it is delicious.
Although the postage is expensive where else can you get real blackcurrents, the best source of vitamin C.

These currants taste amazing. I grew up in Germany and always was surprised to not find these currants here, until now! Wow, I felt like being right in the garden of my grandma when eating these. Currants are the flavor of my childhood, and these frozen ones are stunning.
Problem with packing
Posted by Britta Janitschek on 2nd Aug 2016
I received both red and black currants, both were opened on receiving and both bags were defrosted so that now they are in one big frozen lump. For the black currants I am somewhat OK with it, but the only reason I ordered the de-stemmed red currants was to make a loose frozen berries with sugar as a condiment to my stews and roasts over the winter months. Now all I can make is Jelly or juice them. For that I could just have ordered the stemmed and saved a few bucks. A bit bummed!
Response from CurrantC:
So sorry your berries arrived defrosted. It is a real challenge for us during these hot summers to get our fruit to our customers without any thawing. We package in styrofoam lined boxes with the maximum amount of dry ice allowed. Unfortunately, the dry ice evaporates after the first day or two and we have no control of where the package sits once it is out of our hands. We try to keep the shipping cost affordable by offering services that are not overnight, but during these hot months we recommend expedited shipping to ensure the items remain frozen. Please feel free to contact us if you have any problems in the future.
