Tasty eaten by themselves

I bought these to make Chef John's Hot Cross Buns, but I've been enjoying eating them out of the bag.
True Currant as fondly remembered
Posted by Cheri on 1st Nov 2019
It began as a mystery. "Why can I not find currants in the store and what's up with are the dried grapes being called currants"? I went to the internet and found the TEDx talk and was fascinated enough to order 8oz of dried black currants. I needed 2 tbs of currant to add a tang of tart to a mushroom/leek melange with farro. I stuffed a couple of roasted delicata squash with the melange, added parmesan & a little grated pecorino cheese on top, slid the stuffed halves of roasted squash back in the oven until the cheese melted. It was fabulous but would not have been with the imitation currants (raisins).
Thank you for your perseverance in bring the real currants back. My grandmother had several currant bushes in Michigan 75 years ago and I knew the real currants from childhood.
Great product for purists and I will share with my scone-baking friends!
Great sauce using a Canadian Recipe

Always take time to prepare a Canadian Recipe for their recommended 'sauce'. Never disappointed.
Better than raisins

Much better than raisins. I use them to put in muesli and to put extra currants in the CurrantC granola.

This is one of the very few places that sell REAL Currants, not small raisins like you get in supermarkets. There is a HUGE difference in flavor!
Dried black currants delicious treat

We received an 8 oz packet of dried black currants with an order of frozen currants. We dry our own fruits and like dried fruit that isn't "enhanced" with sugar or oils. These are perfect -- dry but not brittle, with a good black currant flavor. We like them on our morning cereal.
So glad to find these.

These are really, really good. Not too sweet, not too tart, just right. Most of the "currants" out there are really just small raisins, so I was thrilled to find true black currants online. I eat them as they are, but they'd be good in cookies, etc as well.
they are all gone

The Real Deal!

I love black currants. I am a chef and recently discovered them at Pax Americana in Houston. They were in a salad and the tartness was perfect and the chew really added to the textural qualities. I went searching for them and quickly found all the zante raisins masquerading as black currants. I stumbled into CurrantC after reading the history of black currants in the US on Wikipedia. I ordered a small bag and the syrup and am delighted with both of them. I think the currants should be soaked for a few minutes in whatever liquid you might fancy. A few minutes of hydration really opens up the flavor. Let them sit in some fine balsamic or a liqueur or even water for a few minutes.
I did not order the vinegar because I wanted to see and taste the product first. That's next.
